week #15- EC

So far,  I really enjoyed being in art class. My favorite is plaster casting, sketching in the garden, and graffiti writing. I like this activity is because I like being the garden where it is nice and quiet. Also, graffiti is fun when at first I thought it was only for gangsters. Lastly, Plaster casting was awesome. Overall  I love all the activity that you incorporated for this semester. I liked all the activities.

Week #15- Finger Painting

img_6702The experience when I was doing the finger painting was relaxing. Before doing it, I was study for my final for chemistry class, so it kind of have relieved my stress. Also to not think a lot.  I was able to paint freely. It was easier than I expected because I thought I could never paint, and paint like it when I was 10 years old. Painting with no subject made my life a lot easier than when I was in art class in middle school or an assignment I did in high school. I would say relaxing. This painting activity is different from our previous painting activity, Graffiti Writing. It can be the same is when I am relaxing doing what I want on that white paper. They are different is that on is painting so I could fix and add something new when I am messing it up while graffiti I would say it is harder. Overall, it kind of similar, is what you wanted to express on that white paper. I can’t think of any  kind of connection between them as different ways of using paint and creating visual experiences. week #14- Instagram

I am new to Instagram. I signed up for Instagram this summer. It was hard for me to know how to use Instagram at first, but now I am kind of okay with it. I had fun taking picture with my friend and classmates. It was hard to hashtag. I hashtag it wrong, but now I am okay. I like all the photos my classmates post their photo of themselves. I would say I had a great experience posting photos. My friend was having a hard time posting her photo because I was her first time. I had to help her. After getting the hang of it, we both said that was not bad to so. I saw that each of person created a unique wording to explain their picture. I found it funny when my friend post a picture of me when I wasn’t ready.  Also the picture that they took is mostly at school. I really enjoyed reading their comments under their picture. They are so creative. So far, I had fun.

About the Artist:

Brittany Waters, is a student who is working hard toward BFA undergrad degree in the School of Art’s Ceramic. She is currently a California State University of Long Beach Student and this is her 4th year. She will be graduating this spring.

Formal Analysis: 

Brittany Waters creation of her art was amazing. She mentioned that she have the turtle around the functional ware. She said that was she was young, she saw a real life turtles at the ocean when she was 12. She met a 300 pounds’ turtle and petting the that turtle. Then when she was 22 year-old, she went to Hawaii and saw 48 female turtles. She thinks they are beautiful. Her jewelry art involves sea turtles.  I saw there were five things she have on the table. There were ceramic turtle necklace, a sponge holder, and a plates have the turtle on top. She chooses the color that is watery and blue. She was in Long Beach that was when she was inspired. She even mentioned that before when she was living in sacramento her artwork involved green and nature. She was wondering if she moves to the  dessert, what would her art piece would be like.

Content Analysis:

Brittany’s project is about her Jewelry art in turtle. She was able too shared with her her experience. Before she mentioned that was working with installation. Also she planning to work for her final gallery show with ceramic and cellphone teapot, and work at jewelry art. At the age of 19 and 20 she was drawing. Also she mentioned that she was exposed to art at a young age. For instance, during Christmas she received an art kit and take art class at a young age. She remembered that he dad would draw a picture of a rabbit for her.

Synthesis/My Experience:

When entering the exhibit Brittany’s jewelry art caught my attention because I like jewelry. To me, the art she had made are caught my eye. I wanted to show support, but there was not enough money to purchase. Also, I love the color that she uses for her art. It was beautiful how she made the necklace of the turtle. I feel smooth and I like the material for the necklace. It was great to her know her last name, Waters. It matches what she is doing. She mentioned that her Instagram is said artbywaters. I thought that was also amazing how she comes up with.

 

 

Week #14: Classmate conversation-Janett Moctezuma

 

 

Describe what the College Experience will be like for a student in 2036.

Janett Montezuma is fun to talk to. This is her fifth year doing health science. In the future, she wants to be a nurse. That was great to listen to her share her story. When we ask each other question of the day, it was fun to come with the same idea. She shared that her college experience will be like for a student in 2036 is that all the students will have access to technology. Also instead of having a professor having a powerpoint and students taking notes, it would be a professor talking and it will scan the word write into you note. In addition, my other friend said that there will be flying cars in the future and robots will be in control. We all laughed after she said that. The ideas that I came up with is school will be at home instead of at school.

About the Artist:

Nicholas Dison, is a student who is working hard toward BFA undergrad degree in the School of Art’s Ceramic. He is currently a California State University of Long Beach Student and this is his 4th year. He told us that he is currently work here and assist the ceramic technical. I amazed how he got a job here at the school with his major. He created ceramics objects that form a conversation about art, and he’s operating in the field of crafts, ceramics, and contemporary art. His inspiration and artistic will not only inspired me, but everyone around the world.

Formal Analysis: 

Nicholas Dison, creation of Synergizing Fields was creative. He created ceramics objects that form conversation about art. Within his field of ceramics, He used clay as a medium to create objects that have a particle function or decorative purpose. Those object can be sculptural, figurative, or functional. He is questioning traditional ideas of how art is defined in relation to how it is made, while it creates a dialogue with Color Field painting. The mix modern colorful painting and classical with the gilled border and table by putting these new contexts on top. He mentioned that one piece with the cross represent how church used to control artist. He mixed many ingredients as possible and you cannot repeat them and you can get a different product, hear, and glaze. Color Flied painting emphasis on color, material, and expanse as a ties directly to the surface concerns involved in ceramic glazing, yet as an “epitome of mid-twentieth-century high modernist art. This is a separate itself both from craft traditions, and from pre modernist aesthetics and ornamentation. His work looks to pit styles, genres, and traditions against one another to consider their shared qualities and differences. The objects are placed within the framework on the painting. The objects are melting into color fields, the abstract color fields with a tight design on the objects within the painting. He placed these objects that are found in the home that are embellished with floral patterns and filigree.

Content Analysis: 

Nicholas’s project is about how used clay as a medium to create objects that have a particle function or decorative purpose. In his recent works treat the glazed surface as a form of Color Field painting, yet retrain the expansive “field” association of the genre with Baroque and Victorian inspired frames and objects imbedded with floral patterns and filigree. He mentioned that when he was glazing, he feels exciting. His exploration allows for great variability while still allowing him to reproduce desirable results. His exploration of ceramics materials has led him to new discoveries; from one failure until a new idea was forms. Then he fired the pieces’ multiple of times until the piece feels complete.

Synthesis/My Experience: 

When I was entering the West Gaton Gallery. I was amazed how the frames was set up. Each of the frames has a unique meaning. I thought it was painting until reading his personal statements. First frame that I looked at reminded me of graffiti. I inspired the artist that he was able to create a great project that can be related to the Baroque and Victorian. I thought it was a great idea. I like all of pieces that he put together. This shows that art can be create from that has meaning to you.

About the Artist:

Kyle Kruse, is a transfer student who is working hard toward BFA undergrad degree in the school of Art’s print making. He is currently a California State University of Long Beach Student. He grew up in Long Beach. He did rock climbing and love to drive cars. He mentioned that he grew up in a print collect family. First he came to college as a physic major and then he decides to make things that how he ended up in BFA undergrad in the school of Art’s print making.

Formal Analysis: 

Kyle Kruse, creation of, Janus Maxim, has three major sets of films, sculptures, and woodblock carvings dissect and reconfigure the Greco-Roman teaching myths of Prometheus, Janus, and Sisyphus Cyclical figures-elucidate cycles of human progress. It was amazing to learn about the myths. He talked about the three myths, first the Prometheus, forever chained circles of consumption for providing humanity with fire, and the resulting birth of civilization. Sisyphus, forever climbing his hill in the fires of Tartarus for trying to cheat death and prior to that breaking his society’s social contracts. Lastly, Janus in the center of the god of beginnings, endings, gateways and transitions. Janus is representative of the center, transition, and the opposites at each end, the maintenance of these cycles from the void. He also shared that what he calls the void is the viewer exists in multiple point and states throughout time, life of the absence of either.

Content Analysis: 

This man’s project is about questioning ourselves what is actually teaching us? He mentioned that at a point that there is human and other point is an animal. There’s a lot of concept when you look at the art. He also shared that he saw something and feel that way and wonder why and that is how he wants his exhibition. He wants to share that feeling out and created this amazing art. The filming that is part of his exhibition took couples of month and traveling around to look for a place to film. When we ask where did he filmed? He said that he wants the audience to imagine it on our own, “location is in your own head?” Editing was the easiest and it several months. When you enter the exhibit, when I walk on the floor, I can feel the dirt and when you step on it, I can hear how crunchy it is. He said the represent stepping on bone stepping and turning to ashes. The fire represents the fire consumes the body and it returns to sand. Also the new is free to rise and burn again. 

Synthesis/My Experience:

When I entering the exhibit, I was scared because it was dark. To me, it represents heal with a lot weird mask that the artist made. From watching the video, the artist wants us to see that he out there doing something and I am not sure what he was doing. I did not get to interviewed him much because I was not sure or understand what he was talking about. Also, the artist wants us to interpret his art on our own. I was amazed on some of the art work that he put pieces together. I inspired the artist that he was able to create a great project that can be related to each and individual of us. This shows that art can be create from own thoughts and feeling. I got to learn news thing like the myths and the names of these myths.

 

Week #11- Classmate Conversation-Yesenia Hernandez

Yesenia is a student at CSULB and this is her 5th year. She double majoring in Human Development and IST. For the classmate conversation, In the article, a young artist is being criticized by Demi Lovato for drawing of her breast. Yesenia, both disagree and agree with Demi Lovato’s reaction. She mentioned that she agree because it is unrealistic and its a problem because of way girls are idealized and objectified to look a certain way which creates a lot of body issues. But fans art is great and shows the appreication for that artist, the love and connection they feel for them. She thinks that Demi is overacts and could have handles the artist art in a different manner. img_6278

Week 10-Fiber Art Social Network

I see that my family, friends, cousins, coworkers, and church all connect by me. Family only know one of my best friend, Marissa. My family and her family know each other after we became friend. Also I am still contacting my cousins in Cambodia. Sometimes, it hard to communicate with them because lack of technology. I learned from this activity is that I am happy I am surrounding by my family, church, coworkers, and friends. There are a lot of people I can depend on. Furthermore, church relates to my family, my best friend and I  came to know christ I think of the term “Social Network” as applying to my RL life and my RL, physical friends. It can be mostly to online and mobile tools that connect you to people in cyberspace. I think the Dunbar’s Number make a little sense to me that we only have around 150 truly meaningful relationships, and any others we know will be more fragmentary ways. I think what it mean to have 1,000 or 2,000 or 5,000 Facebook “friends” is that you are quite popular or you are just adding people randomly, or also it maybe you are adding famous people website. The sorts of relationships I have with them maybe can be friends from high school, can people I met a for couple of days and added each other. when I visualized my personal social network, I was amazed how much people I know from first day of class until now. I was not closed with my friend, but now I am very closed with them. I am glad to meet them in art class. I first met Darryl and Fatima in class. We were awkward towards each other, but know we are really closed. I wish I have more people I would like to have close relationships with in my life. I think I would go with 20 people. Like if you have troubled, you can relied on. I have only 1 best friends on real life than on Facebook. On Facebook I had 30 friends. My relationship those “extra friends” are also close but not close. These ties brought new me getting into a job opening. My sister’s friend get me a job.

About the Artist:

Daniela Lonescu is working hard toward BFA in art history degree in the school of Art History. This is her last year at California State University. She shared with us that she was born in Romania. In the future, she wants to work at the museum, she wants to create textile and also she wants to open a Romanian museum. She really wants people to know about the past and the beauty of the history of art. She even shared that she brought it online from Germany, France, and Romanian. These clothes that she showcasing, people still wear them now a day, in the country. She was given a certain three days to finish putting them together.

Formal Analysis: 

Daniela Lonescu, creation of, La Blouse Roumaine, has sixteen major blouses that was presented in the exhibit. He began by explaining to us each of the history of every blouses. She shared that the Romanian blouse was and still is an inspiration for artists and fashion designers. There are famous people who was spired by the Romanian Blouses, for example, Henri Matisse’ La Blouse Roumaine (1940), Saint Laurent’s Romanian blouse collection, and Joseph Altuzarra’s collection. Daniela also shared that in this tradition context, the Romanian blouse was worn not only by parents, but by wives of wealthy nobleman and molality as an expression of their national identity. She mentioned that she loves telling stories of each of the Romanian blouses. She mentioned that the most remarkable example of adopting the blouse as a sign of cultural identity was Queen Marie of Romania, who at the beginning of the 1900s proved to be the highest promoter of the Romanian traditional dress on the international scene.

Each of the blouses that was on a display in the inhibition has a decorative aspect and their timeless beauty, these blouses are venerable artifacts, communicating through hand-embroidered symbols that identity of their own weaver. The stitching and the ancient pattern communicate the weaver’s region, membership in a group, and individual identity at one and the same time. Also they were thought to have appropriate qualities power to avert evil influence and bad luck. Each of blouses tell a unique story. 

Content Analysis:

Daniela’s project is about her own mission is to continue telling the story of the Romanian blouse, which is the history of the women who wore it. She mentioned that the dark color is for elders and lighter color is for younger people. Usually, they wore the Romanian blouses for church, celebration, festival, and Christmas. The skirt is just simple wrapped around your waist. Each of the village, county, and regions has its own type of designs. Romania have for regions. In the exhibit, the blouse with black is frim the Southern of the Romanian; it represents the richest, wealth, and the rapped represent protecting the womb. In addition, the right side is the culture rule; she shared that this woman chooses blue because she is young wife and she is optimistic for her future. The purple blouse was chosen by a young woman who wants to be different from everyone else. The olive blouse Is from a city area. Each of the material that they used to make these blouses are originally from their village. Lastly this pretty blouse is made by a man, who is from a peasant family, and he wanted to create something unusual and became famous for it. Also the Valentino 2015 collection was spired by him.

Synthesis/My Experience

When I was entering the gallery, I was amazed from looking at all the colorful blouses. Each of the blouses has a unique story behind that even I can relate to. I am so happy to see what Daniella did because she has her own way to showcased her art. Also I am happy that she is representing her own culture and she won’t forget her own culture when moving to America. I love all the color blouses that she has. In the future, I wish to go Romania and wear one of these blouses. This remind me of my own culture in Cambodia. In Cambodia, when women get married they have their own dress color that they wanted to wear. Also Daniella inspired me that in the future I can show case Cambodian traditional clothing.
